Readings: Ezek 47: 1-2, 8-9, 12; Jn 2: 13-22
Today, the Church celebrates the dedication of the Lateran Basilica, which is recognized as the oldest basilica in the West and the official ecclesiastical seat of the Pope, making it mother and head of all churches in the world. This feast reminds us of the importance of our spiritual homes, where we come to worship, pray, and find solace in the Lord.
In the first reading, we hear about prophet Ezekiel’s vision of the temple, where waters flow from under the threshold, bringing life to the desert. This vision serves as a reminder that we are all sojourners in the desert of life, searching for the spring of God’s love. May we find comfort in the knowledge that God is always with us, guiding us through the desert, and may we share our encounters with God’s love so that others may also find solace and healing.
In the gospel, we see Jesus purifying the Temple, driving out those who were using it for their own benefit. This demonstration reminds us that our spiritual homes should be places of prayer and petition, where we can truly experience God’s love.
Just as the waters in Ezekiel’s vision bring life and healing to the desert, our spiritual homes should be sources of life and healing for us. May we recognize the healing power of God’s love in our lives and be willing to share that love with others.
