Readings: 1 Tim 6:13-16; Lk 8: 4-15
The passage in itself is self-explanatory and reflective. The parable of the sower portrays ‘sower’ as God, ‘seed’ as word of God and ‘land’ as each one’s heart.
Each person is unique and different. Everyone owns his own heart with different levels of experience and understanding. Some are more experienced, caring, receptive; while some do not even believe and are hard for a change to happen. All these factors help the ‘seed’- word of God to fall, sprout, grow, and then bear fruit.
The passage says that the land shown here are of different types. But in our lives, land is the heart of every individual which has the potential to be turned into a fertile land. What really matters is the effort each one has to put in making it fertile and fruitful. Exterior forces, situations etc. are often blamed for the way we accept and live the word of God in our life.
Instead, it is everyone’s duty to make our heart a fertile land for the word of God to fall and bear much fruit. Our spiritual practices, pious attitude, readiness in service, helping others in need, and personal prayer will make our heart capable of receiving the word of God.
