Lucknow (UP): In the vibrant city of Lucknow, a significant event unfolded, embodying the spirit of hope and community as inspired by Pope Francis’ message: “We must fan the flame of hope that has been given us, and help everyone to gain new strength and certainty by looking to the future with an open spirit, a trusting heart, and far-sighted vision.” This was the essence of “Youth & Vocation Sunday 2024,” themed “Pilgrims of Hope.”

The day commenced with a heartfelt Holy Mass led by the Most Rev. Dr. Gerald J. Mathias, Bishop of Lucknow, alongside notable clergy including Rev. Fr. Dominic Pinto, Agra Regional Youth Director, Rev. Fr. Robert Monteiro, Parish Priest of St. Matthew Parish, and Rev. Fr. Asit Dung Dung, Youth Animator of St. Dominic Savio Church. Bishop Mathias delivered an inspiring sermon focusing on the three main vocations: ordained ministry, religious life, and lay service. He urged attendees to explore their unique callings with openness and trust, emphasizing that “Hope in Christ is a light that never dims.”

Following the Mass, participants celebrated the belated birthday of Rev. Fr. Dominic Pinto. The atmosphere was filled with joy as Ms. Amisha Cutina, the Agra regional youth president, and Mr. Aryan Lawrance, the Lucknow diocesan youth president, shared touching anecdotes highlighting Fr. Dominic’s unwavering dedication to the youth.

The event continued with a series of engaging sessions designed to foster connection and learning. Mr. Albin Robin, the Agra regional youth technical head, provided insights into the National Office’s support for youth ministry, sharing stories that underscored the importance of dedication and creativity in their efforts. Ms. Amisha Cutina then elaborated on the operations of the regional youth office, while Ms. Christina Maria Mitra, the regional youth secretary, led a vital discussion on LGBTQIA+ issues, promoting understanding and acceptance within the community.

Adding a lively touch to the day, Mary Lakra, the regional youth graphic designer, captivated the audience with a dynamic dance performance, encouraging all to embrace their faith with enthusiasm akin to that of King David in the Bible.

The day culminated in a ceremony recognizing the achievements of youth through medals and trophies awarded for various competitions held throughout August. This moment celebrated the talents and hard work of the participants, reinforcing the event’s theme of hope and community.

As the event concluded, there was a collective reflection on the dedication that made the day possible. Fr. Dominic and youth leaders expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the entire DEXCO team for their tireless efforts in bringing the theme of “Pilgrims of Hope” to life, creating a day filled with inspiration and connection.

“Youth & Vocation Sunday 2024” transcended being merely an event; it represented a journey of hope, community, and spiritual renewal. Attendees departed with renewed strength and certainty, ready to carry the spirit of hope into the future, embodying the essence of the day in their lives.
