St. James, in the first reading, cautions us to prioritize God as our sole object and master, rather than being overly attached to the things of this world. He paints a vivid picture of people who approach God with misguided motives – seeking things from him for the wrong reasons. These individuals may not be content with what they have, engage in quarrels, or even resort to unethical actions to fulfil their desires.
However, when we make God our primary focus, these harmful tendencies won’t find a place within us. By placing God above all else, we align ourselves with his will and purpose. It’s like ensuring that our hearts and minds are tuned to the rhythm of God. In the Gospel, Jesus instructs His followers to adopt the simplicity of little children. Children don’t worry about high positions or complex matters. They trust those who care for them, relying on their guidance for everything they need.
Similarly, by embracing this ‘little way’, we can genuinely become followers of Christ. It involves humility, trust, and a childlike faith – a path that leads us closer to God.
