Readings: Rev 11:19a; 12:1-6a, 10ab; 1Cor 15:20-27; Lk 1:39-56
Today we celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The liturgy of the Word invites us to trust in God and praise him. When facing troubles, we may question God’s presence, but we must place our hope in him as the ultimate power. Mother Mary is our example; she accepted God’s will and praised him amidst her sufferings, as shown in the Magnificat. We, too, are invited to trust and praise God for the gift of life.
The readings call us to be faithful to our responsibilities. When circumstances challenge us, we should remember Mother Mary’s unwavering faithfulness. Despite her suffering, she remained committed to God and her role as the mother of Jesus. We are called to fulfil our duties faithfully, drawing strength from her example.
Today also marks India’s Independence Day, a time to reflect on the values of freedom and responsibility. Just as Mother Mary remained steadfast in her faith and duties, we are called to honour the sacrifices of those who fought for our freedom by living responsibly and with integrity. To be faithful to God, we need his grace and blessings. Let us place our hope in him and be trustworthy of his love, drawing inspiration from the courage and faithfulness of Mother Mary and the freedom fighters of our nation.
