Many of us like to possess power and position in society. We like to be respected by others. Having position and power are not wrong things, but the problem is, with the attitude we gain and enjoy them. Some people can go to any extent to acquire such positions. In families, fights and misunderstandings begin due to lack of humility.

In communities, the confreres become enemies to one another and try to pull them down. And in society, people try to put others down by discriminating in the name of religion, caste, region, etc. Due to the lack of humility in the hearts and minds of some people, the poor and the downtrodden suffer every day. It is incredibly sad to say that the people hesitate to even touch them; like they are untouchables in society. In the first reading, we hear that prophet Jeremiah suffered in the hands of the people because he stood against injustice and discrimination.

God, who created this whole universe, also created each one of us and did not discriminate against anyone. As humans, we are creating these problems in society. If we really believe in God with our whole heart and mind, with virtues of humility and compassion, without any hatred towards our neighbours, friends, confreres, brothers, and sisters, we can live in peace and harmony. Through the gospel readings of today, the Lord is inviting us to practice the virtue of humility so that we may live with one another as children of the same Father. After all, God is the Father of all and he is the master of all.
