It is obvious that when one’s time becomes limited, he or she often experiences feelings of sadness, worry, and anxiety. Jesus knew very well that his time was drawing near. He understood that the scriptures would be fulfilled through his passion, death, and resurrection. As both divine and human, Jesus may have felt concerned when he uttered the words, “My time is near.”

However, Jesus did not just focus on his forthcoming suffering. Instead, he desired to share the Passover meal with his beloved disciples to emphasize the importance of following his commands. This intention is evident in the gospel, where Jesus identifies the traitor among them. He confronts the betrayer directly, knowing that one of his loyal disciples seated beside him will betray him. Jesus said, “Woe to that one by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that one not to have been born.”

Today, we betray Jesus in various ways through our sins against him and his commandments. We must reflect on how we betray our Lord and seek his mercy for forgiveness. Let us pray for the grace of faith, hope, and love, so that we may remain steadfast in our commitment to him.
