Readings: Acts 8: 26-40; Jn 6: 44-51
The word of God invites us to reflect on God’s choice in our life. The first reading tells the story of Philip who was driven out of Jerusalem by persecution and his early ministry. God chose him to travel north into Samaria and spreads the message of the gospel to the people there.
There was also a story of the eunuch’s conversion whom Philip was chosen to intervene on God’s behalf. In both the cases of Philip and the eunuch, their positive responses to God’s choice made a difference in their lives. For Philip, his ministry was fruitful, and for the eunuch, a conversion of a new life in Christ.
In our faith journey, our most important choice is to listen to God and learn from his Son Jesus. In the gospel, Jesus tells us that no one can come to Him unless God draws him to Jesus. This means that unless God choose us, we cannot be part of His family.
Jesus tells us that it is not we who choose, but he chooses us. However, often time we make our own choices which are in contravention to God’s plan. This often deviates us from God, leading to failure in life. Therefore, like Philip and the eunuch, we are invited to cooperate with God in his choice for us, and the choice that we make should go hand in hand with the plan of God.
Further, Jesus offers us the choice that if we believe in him, and eat his body and drink his blood, we shall live forever. He offers his real life which is full of love for us. So, let us pray that, with the grace of God, we may find strength to make choices in line with God’s will in our daily life which will transform us, and lead us to everlasting life.
