Today’s gospel reminds me that, like the disciples, I often lose focus on Jesus during the journey of my life. Instead of fixing my eyes on him, I allow fear to lead me to focus on the storms and waves that come my way- dwelling on difficulties and problems rather than on the Lord.
In times of adversity, like the disciples, I need to cry out to Jesus to calm the wind and waves. As St. Teresa of Calcutta once said, “I used to believe that prayer changes things, but now I know that prayer changes us, and we change things.” He never abandons me; instead, he poses a question that prompts introspection: “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” These questions highlight how often I become consumed by problems instead of entrusting them to the Lord.
Today, let us pray for the grace of unwavering faith that continually seeks the Lord and entrusts all concerns to his loving care, as St. Padre Pio encouraged, “Pray, hope, and don’t worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will hear your prayer.”
