In the Gospel we hear an account of the genealogy of Jesus Christ. It is not surprising for all of us that Jesus was born in a poor family like one of us, and he lived poor, died poor. Even though the ancestors of Jesus were rich and wealthy, good or not so good, Jesus chose to be to be born as poor and good, so that he can experience and understand the suffering and the cry of the poor and the marginalized people of the society.
He received the blood from his ancestors and he gave back the same blood to humans as ransom. That is to show us that Jesus Christ was truly one of us, fully human and yet fully divine.
Our genealogy may not be very good, or we may have had some kind of bitter experience. This is the time of preparation of oneself, forgetting all the past. Jesus did not worry about his ancestors. There were holy people and sinful people in his genealogy. But his focus was on present time, preparing for future and making use of the present for the people. What do I choose to be during these coming days?
How can I grow further in my dealing with the people? The real meaning of life does not lie in what we have, how rich I am, but in how I am able to make use of whatever I have for me as well as for others. Let us be productive then, and spend our life as Jesus did, doing good and try hard to be better in daily life. Let us spend time during Christmas with the family rather than going to friend’s house and relatives, exchange and share the love, joy and hope rather than just gifts. Let us prepare a crib in our heart, not only outside. That is what Jesus wants from us.
