Readings: Acts 1: 15- 17, 20-26; Jn 15:9 – 17

To remain in God’s love, we must develop our prayer. It helps us discern his voice. The first reading describes the selection of Matthias to replace Judas Iscariot among the Twelve Apostles. The significance of prayer in decision-making and discernment within the Christian community is evident. Rather than rushing to fill the vacancy left by Judas, the apostles devoted themselves to prayer, acknowledging the importance of seeking God’s guidance in such matters.

This emphasizes the significance of seeking God’s will and wisdom through prayer in our own lives, especially when faced with life’s uncertainties or taking important decisions. It serves as a reminder that God is actively involved in the details of our lives, guiding and directing us according to His divine plan.

Through the gospel passage, we are invited to imitate Christ by loving and following his commandments. We are chosen by God, and we have the responsibility to act upon and respond. The passage emphasizes the love of God and the call to love one another as a response to that love. Just like Matthias, all of us are called by the Lord to be his disciples.

When we are convinced of our call, it helps us love one another and share this love with all. Therefore, this passage invites us to reflect on our own prayer life. Let us pray to deepen our prayer life, trust in God’s providence, remain faithful in our service to him, love our neighbor, and prioritize unity within the body of Christ.
