Readings: Gen 6:5-8, 7:1-5, 10; Mk 8:14-12
First reading reminds us that God was disappointed with the human beings for they were evil in all the sphere of their life continually. This incident teaches us a great lesson, a lesson to examine ourselves, our past and present life and amend our way of living if it is not favorable to God because God is waiting for us to save us. (2 Peter 3:15 Look on our Lord’s patience
as the opportunity he is giving you to be saved.)
In the gospel Jesus shows great patience to his disciples at their inability to grasp the meaning of two extraordinary events: five thousand people fed with five loaves and four thousand with seven. Yet they doubted and so he reminded them who he really is. Jesus wants us to learn from our past experiences to remember his intervention in life in the time of crisis and hazy days. He wants us to trust without a doubt, especially in times of crisis because our faith is questioned at the time of suffering. (Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand. Prov 19:21, For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jer 29:11). The promises of God never change for his children, he is with us all the time.
Though it is we who fail before God yet he is consistent and constant towards us.
So, today why not recite a small prayer: Lord God we thank you that you are the God of refuge. Today, we come to you in prayer asking for your love, protection, and wisdom. We know that you are the one true source of hope.
Please be a place of refuge and a constant presence of love and support for us in times of fear, anxiety, loneliness and uncertainty.
