Ranchi: The Brambe area which is about 20 kilometres from Ranchi, the capital city of Jharkhand, has the unfortunate distinction of having a number of widows some of them rather young, others middle aged and still others quite old. Many of them are struggling for survival especially those with small children to look after.
This Sunday the Ranchi Archdiocese turned its attention to these unfortunate members of the society. Once again, with its Ranchi Catholic Youth battalion, Archbishop Felix Toppo SJ and Bishop Theodore Mascarenhas SFX led from the front in the Archdiocesen works of mercy.
Travelling to Brambe after celebrating the Sunday online Mass, the two shepherds along with Fr. Sushil Toppo, Fr. Premchand Tirkey Parish Priest of Brambe, Brother Sumit Bara, Kuldeep Tirkey and other youth distributed rations to over 135 widows.
Archbishop Felix Toppo SJ prayed for the widows and their children and exhorted them to help each other. Bishop Theodore reminded the people to pray for our benefactors who has made it possible for them to make the rations available to the people.
Sr. Vimla, and Sr. Felicita from Cheshire home who provided sarees for the widows were also present. From thereon, the team moved on Bargari village where rations were distributed to another 90 families, many of them widows. Those who helped in the distribution were the village chief (Mukhiya) Jaywant, Samir, Luis, Xavier, Sony, Amber, Amar, Rajni, Linus and Francisca.
The rations were sponsored by Street Providence, Goa, Loreto Sisters Ranchi and Nazareth Sisters, Ranchi.
