Readings: Ezek 28:1-10, Mt 19: 23-30
The gospel of today invites you and me to be generous. I am called to give and share the countless blessings I have received, the gifts of my life, the surplus of goodness I possess. It is natural that what we give, we receive. We receive not only the same amount but with interest.
If I truly love my friend, there will be many friends who will come loving me. If I extend my hand in helping others, then there will be people to help me during my difficulties. It is the same with all: – knowledge, love, care, concern etc. If I give pain to others and hesitate to help them, it is natural that I receive pain and rejection.
Let us examine ourselves, what do I give others? How much joy do I share with others? Am I selfish in my actions? When do I act selfish? The reading invites me not only to keep my hands open to receive from others but also to give away things that are life promoting. Let positive energy pass on to others through my words and thoughts. The act of opening myself up should allow me to realize the negativities which hinder my growth and to allow others to receive good things from me.
