Readings: Gen 32: 23-33; Mt 9: 32-38
In today’s gospel Jesus wants us to pray for laborers for the harvest. Jesus desires every generation to have a great force of laborers. He wants everyone to be reached with the good news of the kingdom. He does the calling, forming, and sending. He raises people with very special gifts to harvest the fields. “The gifts he gave were that some would be apostles, some pastors, and teachers” (Eph 4:11).
The harvest is plentiful. There is a harvest of children who need to be nurtured emotionally and spiritually. There is a harvest of youth who need to be motivated and listened to. There is harvest of women who need to be loved, respected, and understood.
There is a harvest of men who need to be strengthened and liberated. There is a harvest of old people who need to be valued and cared for. The reaping of the harvest must be done in accordance with the will of the Lord. No one has the right to harvest by using his own messages and ideas.
