Readings: Job 7: 1-4,6-7; 1Cor 9: 16-19; Mk 1: 29-39
The readings of the day highlight the harsh realities of human life and God’s interventions in our lives. Life is not always a bed of roses but also marked by crosses. It depends on how we perceive given situations; at times, life is full of fun and celebrations, while at other times, it is engulfed in adversities and crises.
In the first reading, we witness how Job displayed unwavering trust in the Lord and glorified God during both good and bad times. He maintained consistency in his prayer and was firmly rooted in his faith.
In the second reading, St. Paul demonstrated complete dedication and commitment to his entrusted responsibility of preaching the Good News. Despite challenges and persecutions, he selflessly served to make Christ known to the world.
In the gospel reading, we observe how Jesus established a new era of divine action, a clear sign of God participating in the lives of people through Jesus. Jesus brought joy to those suffering from various diseases, liberating them from the clutches of demons. He introduced newness of life and challenged unlawful practices in society, bringing new hope to people. To save the entire human race, Jesus had to sacrifice his own life on the cross. When we possess unshakable trust and faith in the Lord, we receive the necessary grace and blessings to face life’s challenges.
