Readings: Gen 1:1-19; Mk 6:53-56
In the first reading we hear the creation story of the universe. In this particular reading we have something to notice. After each day’s creation God saw that it was good. Why did God want to relook at his creation? Was he not confident in his mighty works? God didn’t want anything to be in disorder. When God himself would do that, what about us, the limited beings? Often due to our overconfidence we fail to cross-check our little works that we do in our lives. We need to crosscheck our work so that we can avoid unnecessary errors in lives.
In the Gospel reading we see people recognizing Jesus and bringing sick and the suffering believing that Jesus would heal them. After healing Jesus went to nearby villages, cities, farms and market places to preach the word of God. Here we could see Jesus proving that he came to save the entire human kind from the bondage of sin, because villages symbolizes a place of poor and simple people, cities rich people, farms those who are struggling and suffering and market places those people who are neglected and lonely. Jesus is for everyone. All those who believe in him will have fullness of life.
This gospel passage gives us a gentle reminder to recognize Jesus as our master and savior. Let us try to learn from Jesus to love our neighbors without discriminating on any basis because we are created by one God and we have one Father in heaven.
