Today the church celebrates the Feast of Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary. One simple ‘yes’ changed the life of Mary and the whole of humanity in the plan of God’s salvation. We know, Mother Mary as a mother of Jesus, Mother of God, and now she shares with Jesus the kingdom of God by being raised as queen.
We read in today’s Gospel about the annunciation to Blessed Virgin Mary, where we learn that Mother Mary humbled herself and accepted God’s salvific plan. She knows there will be trials and tribulation; still she said ‘yes’ to the Lord. Saying ‘yes’ to someone for something is not easy, it needs full commitment and self-giving.
How many times am I open to God’s Call or God’s intervention in my life? Do I commit myself to the works that are given to me or just for namesake I say ‘yes’ and forget about my commitment to it? Mother Mary became a great mother and queen when she listened to God’s voice. God speaks to us in different ways through different people.
For Mother Mary, the message was sent through angel Gabriel, for us it maybe through our superiors, friends, parents, relatives and even through people whom we don’t like. Am I able to recognize that these messages come from God and I need to commit myself to it? Let us recognize the voice of God from different people whom we meet and commit ourselves fully.
