Today our Mother Church celebrates the feast of St. Timothy and St. Titus. On this day, I would like to focus on the theme “Selfless or desireless action”. The action is performed without any expectation of fruits or results.
Therefore, Jesus invites us to do the responsibility and not to worry about the results, because God will give the results. To cultivate selfless and desireless action or behaviour we need to cultivate certain gospel values and that need to be followed. Those values are mentioned in today’s liturgy of the word.
In the Gospel Jesus exhorts us to be the light that shines out in the world. The purpose of the light is to shine, and so by this exhortation Jesus wants us to be bright lights amid darkness.
Secondly Jesus says, the measure you give will be the measure you will get. God loves a
cheerful giver. The attitudes of generosity, compassion and love with which we measure out to the other people, will be the measure we will receive in reward from the Lord.
Thirdly, Jesus tells us that if we have more, the more will be given. To the extent we are faithful, sincere and committed to live our faith, God will ensure that He will give more than what we require. Because God is a generous giver, and He shall not fail in His promises. In the first reading, St. Paul reminds us to rekindle the gifts of God that are within us. God has given us a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. Therefore, let us rekindle the gospel values, which are the gifts of God and live with the spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. We pray that we may have selfless action to remain as a light that shines and glows in the world.
