Today, our mother church celebrates the feast of The Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This feast was proclaimed as a Liturgical feast by Pope XII on 11th October through his Encyclical letter “Ad Caeli Reginam” which asks us to recognize and celebrate the Blessed Virgin Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth. Because of her eminence, she is accorded the highest honour that can be bestowed upon any creature.
The Gospel reading of the day highlights God’s intervention in the history of humanity and the right response of Mary to God’s involvement. God’s interventions are not always according to human expectations, desires, and imaginations. The visits of Archangel Gabriel both to Zechariah and Mary were really surprising. The Angel declares that Mary has been blessed with the favour of God. The special intervention of God in the life of Mary was not the outcome of anything she did. But it is God who takes the initiative to intervene in human life.
He executes his plan through human cooperation and finally brings it to completion. In her humility, Mary considered herself the handmaid of the Lord. Her earthly life was a life of faithfulness to God in humility, obedience to God’s will and perseverance till the end. We must
recognize his presence among human beings, realize the power of God and rejoice in doing his will. When things seem humanly impossible, we must let God accomplish them. Nothing is impossible for God. So, let us pray to God to increase our faith to rely fully upon him.
