Readings: Is 40: 25-31; Mt 11: 28-30
In the first reading, we see our Lord as an everlasting and untiring God. He does not grow weary in responding and comforting his people. He is a God who is alert, active, and filled with enthusiasm. It reflects in the Gospel too, ‘Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, I will give you rest.’
In the fast-changing world, we wish to see things happen instantly or in a fraction of a second. While attending classes online, I get restless and impatient when the Wi-Fi network fails forcing me to switch to my cell network which begins to lag. Similarly, people get agitated for many petty issues. This restlessness has created dryness and stress in people’s lives.
Today, the Lord calls each one of us to know our weariness and not get exhausted with the materialistic world. It is in Jesus that we rejuvenate ourselves to face this world. We are invited to have a clear-cut mind in choosing to imitate Jesus and his teachings than to labour for the worldly things that leads to physical, mental, and spiritual exhaustion. We shall rely on in the resting hands of Jesus before and after our tasks, and it will give rest to our souls to begin a new day with him.
