“The measure of love is to love without measure.” – St. Francis de Sales.

The first reading speaks of the love of God, the love of our brethren, the importance of following God’s commandments, and the faith in God that can overcome the world. John the Evangelist teaches that loving our brothers and sisters is a sign of loving God, with Jesus Christ as the ultimate model of love.

In the gospel, we hear about the fulfilment of the Good News brought by Jesus—bringing liberation to the captives, sight to the blind, and favour to the oppressed. Jesus is the revealer of the Father’s love, and the fulfiller of the promises made by God through the prophets. Jesus sets a clear example of the Father’s love by loving the poor, the marginalized, and offering liberation to the captives.

Today, Jesus calls us to do the same. He desires that we continue his mission in our lives. It is our responsibility to bring glory to God by loving our brothers and sisters, whether at home, in our community, or anywhere we go. As God’s children, we must remain loyal to His commandments and spread the good news to the poor, bring justice to the marginalized, and offer healing—not only for physical blindness, but also for the spiritual blindness that affects many in our world.
