The liturgy of the day invites me to offer my innate abilities totally to God who bestowed on me all his gifts. In today’s gospel, the generosity of the poor widow in offering two copper coins inspires me to give everything to the Lord, a hundred percent. When I give my talent, times, and values etc. with love and a spirit of sacrifice, then it is considered to be precious in the eyes of God.
What Jesus tells me is to offer everything to the Lord, who has granted all his blessings with special gifts. For God, it does not matter how much I have, but the attitude of my giving matters a lot. Jesus reminds me that God, the author, has given me the talents, not to praise or to exalt myself, but to praise and honour his kingdom through my life. Therefore, when I commit myself fully in the works of the Lord and do everything faithfully, he brings success to all that I do for him.
Jesus, through this gospel, challenges me today to use all my talents for the service and good of others because God the generous giver shared his abilities with me in order to share my talents with others. Being poor, the widow in the gospel, knew the value of what she gave generously to God. A simple act was able to open Jesus to appreciation, to see the woman’s action as an invitation to live with trust. As I realize the bountiful gifts of God in life through this passage, I thank and surrender everything to God who is with me and supports me to render my service for the poor and needy.
