Today we celebrate the feast of Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of the Church. In the Church, we have several Marian feasts.
However, this feast encourages the Church to develop a maternal sense in the pastors, religious and the laity.
In the first reading from the book of Genesis, we hear about disobedience of the first parents which cast them out of the presence of God. In the gospel, we see Jesus on the cross giving his beloved mother to his beloved disciple, John. Mary lovingly accepted the last wish of Jesus to be with his disciple, who represents the entire Church.
Mary who is the new Eve out of her obedience has brought God’s only son Jesus to this world. In all of Jesus’s major ministries, Mary accompanied him as a first disciple.
For her faithfulness to the mission of God and the ministry of Jesus; she is revered and honored. She is a worthy mother who can direct us (Church) to God. Mary was a simple woman chosen from an ordinary life. Her commitment and loyalty to God’s mission, during Jesus’ life on earth and later along with his disciples helped her care for the Christians.
After the departure of Jesus and during the time of chaos, Mary brought the disciples together as a loving mother. On this day, let us introspect on our devotion to Marian prayers and ask if they have
impacted our lives? Let us pray that Mary’s faith journey of responding to the God’s plan and accompanying her son Jesus motivate us to commit ourselves entirely to the will of the Father.
