Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord. The Solemnity reminds me of the plan of God to save humanity by sending his son into the world. We all have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once and for all.
In the First Reading, King Ahaz was given a sign by God that a virgin would conceive and bear a Son. This was fulfilled in Mary who was a Virgin though betrothed to a man named Joseph conceived through the overshadowing of the Holy Spirit.
Mary by being obedient became the cause of salvation for herself and the whole human race. She is both the recipient and the channel of God’s grace. Mary’s yes to the call of the Lord though not knowing what is in store for her in the future indicates her trust in the Divine Providence. She was Chosen by the divine initiative and consented to the call of God. She co-operated with the plan of God and showed her commitment till the cross and suffered the sorrow of the death of Jesus. Now she continues as the model and intercessor for us.
The obedience of Mary impels me to respond to the call of God positively in my life. It is a call to surrender and trust in his Providence because his plans for me are greater than my perception of my life.
