The prominent character of Mary Magdalene in the gospel today is something profound, unique, wonderful, and extraordinary. Today, in the gospel, we see Mary Magdalene searching, longing, and crying for Jesus. At the same time, she turns around and finds Jesus, the risen Lord, and calls him a master, and goes to tell her brothers, proclaiming that she has seen the risen Lord.
Through her sincere act, Mary Magdalene reminds us that we need to cry for our soul, not for the body, we need to search for good, not evil, and find God, not wealth. The ultimate purpose of our life is to know God, not the external things. Mary Magdalene was searching and was weeping bitterly for the Lord, her heart was so fragile and weak, but her crying did not vanish. Rather it turned into joy, gained strength from Jesus, and with obedience, went to proclaim the good news of Jesus to her brothers saying that Jesus had risen from the dead.
As Christians, our priority should be the mission of Christ. It is our duty to guide others in the path of Christ and proclaim the good news. We need to take Jesus along with us to give others who have no faith, or have been abandoned, and are living with suffering and hopelessness.
It is an invitation for us to return to the Lord, search for him with passion and zeal, and share the good news of Jesus Christ all over the world through which people may be transformed to open their ears to listen to the voice of God, and have the eyes of faith to live a meaningful life like Mary Magdalene.
