Readings: 1 Pet 2: 2-5, 9-12; Mk 10: 46-52
The readings of today inspire me to do the works that please the Lord.
To come out from the darkness into the light. In the Gospel, we find a blind man named Bartimaeus who sat by the roadside in dirt and shame. He was helpless, needing guidance and direction. Yet, he desired to break free from this state. When he heard that Jesus was passing by, he gained courage and shouted “Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me.”
Though he was rebuked for doing this by the people, he did not lose hope because he knew that Jesus would heal him, so he shouted even louder. Jesus, recognizing his unwavering faith, restored his sight. Bartimaeus then followed Jesus on his path.
This Gospel passage motivates me to rise above my feelings of unworthiness and guilt, seeking divine mercy from the Lord. I am invited to let go of the darkness of my past and step into the future illuminated by the light of Jesus Christ. His light has the power to transform my life, shifting me from the roadside to the path that follows Jesus. From a life marked by sadness and loneliness, I am called to embrace a life of discipleship and of witness, finding joy in the radiance of his presence.
