Rosary Kristhasabha Celebrates Sixth Annual Konkani Event

Mumbai: Coming together in what could be termed as a get together of Konkani speaking people from Belgaum, Southern Maharashtra and Sundhudurg district, members of Rosary Kristhasabha celebrated its sixth annual get together. At a function that was held at St Vincent Palloti church hall at Marol, Andheri large number of Konkani speaking people observed the day by felicitating students, achievers and senior citizens on September 15. The organization has been striving for the unity and uplift of the Konkani speaking people from Belagavi, Kolhapur and Sindhudurg region settled in Mumbai.

Jesuit priest Rev Fr Joe Monteiro (Gadhinglaj), Louis Rodrigues, journalist and editor of Uzwaad, Inspector Anjelina Lobo, the first lady inspector from Belgaum region serving with the Mumbai police and emerging entrepreneur Amol Bardeskar originally hailing from Gadhinglaj taluka in Kolhapur district were felicitated for their valuable contribution to the society.

In his address Rev Fr Joe Monteiro urged people to conserve Konkani language and culture and also strive to maintain spirituality in day to day life. Reminding members of the rich Konkani traditions and language that was inherited from Goa.

Louis Rodrigues said that the Goan ancestors who left Goa due to Inquisition and other reasons settled across the upper ghats region in Belgaum and Kolhapur districts. “It is our duty to commit ourselves to the cause of Konkani which is our identity. We should take pride in our mother tongue and also ensure that it is inculcated among our future generations, ” he said. Amol Bardeskar also spoke.

President Kajmil Goves briefed about the six years of services rendered by the organization. Konkani cultural programme was also resented on the occasion. Dr Motes Lobo, Joint Commissioner of professional taxes Dr David Alvares, Walnes Rego, Jerome Fernandes and others were present.
