Lucknow: In a stirring display of devotion and resilience, the Lucknow Diocesan Youth Commission (DEXCO) and the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) orchestrated a profound event titled “One Day Lenten Penitential Youth Recollection” on March 10, 2024. This gathering marked a significant milestone for the Catholic youth community in India.
The day commenced with a poignant Holy Mass at St. Joseph Cathedral, Lucknow, under the guidance of Most Rev. Dr. Gerald John Mathias, the Bishop of Lucknow Diocese. Bishop Mathias delivered a compelling sermon, encouraging the youth to fortify their faith amidst trials and offering prayers for Fr. Dominic and others facing challenges, drawing parallels with biblical narratives.
Central to the event was a deeply moving recollection session, skillfully led by a team of worship leaders comprising Mr. Ajay Dominic Dhanga, Mr. Abhishek Benedict, Mr. Clinton Massey, Ms. Sharona Mukherjee, and Ms. Anupma Khushbu Soren. Through engaging storytelling rooted in biblical teachings, they resonated with the youth, addressing contemporary issues encountered by Catholic youth in India.
Moreover, the event shed light on the significance of Penance, mirroring the biblical tale of the prodigal son seeking redemption. This theme culminated in a profound experience of confession, where over 150 youth expressed contrition and sought spiritual rejuvenation, symbolizing the profound forgiveness inherent in repentance.
Beyond traditional spiritual practices, the recollection provided a platform to confront modern challenges faced by today’s youth, fostering a space for prayer, contemplation, and preparation for the Lenten season.
The “One Day Lenten Penitential Youth Recollection” stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment and resilience of the Catholic youth community in India, exemplifying their dedication to faith and spiritual growth in the face of adversity.
