The gospel describes the beauty of the discipleship. To be Jesus’ disciple and follow him is not an easy task; it is one of the hardest things to do because it requires sacrifice and commitment.
When the Scribe said to Jesus that he wanted to follow Jesus wherever he went, Jesus replied to him by saying, “The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air nests: but the Son of Man hath not where
to lay his head.”
By saying this, he makes the Scribe understand that the life he was looking for is not easy, that he will not even have a place to lay his head. Jesus means to say that he has to do a lot of sacrifices and wants him to understand the implications of following him.
Sacrifice and commitment go hand in hand. Looking for comfort and avoiding commitment is a typical sin we can easily fall into.
As a follower of Jesus in religious life, I may apparently feel that I have sacrificed everything for Jesus in comparison with others. I need to ask myself if I have really sacrificed my comforts to keep the commitment I made to Jesus.
