Readings: Ezek 47:1-9, 12; Jn 5:1-16
In this fourth week of lent, this reading invites us to be closer to God by prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Today’s readings invite me to be a real source of life to others. The first reading beautifully portrays the significance of the water that flows from the temple of God. The gospel reading is about the water that cures the sickness of people.
As I look into my life, I start my journey from God and my destiny is God. I should be able to live my life in its fullness because God is the source of my life and I share part of his divinity through my baptism.
The reading invites me to be more sensitive to the needs of others and be a companion and friend. I should be able to help the people in need. The water gives life to nature and God gave me life and today is an invitation for me to be the source of life to others.
As Jesus responded to the needs of the people, I too should be open to see the need and help the other. As Saint Francis of Assisi said, “in giving we receive.” This is what the Lord asks me to do and I pray that my life may be more giving and promoting love, justice, equality for all in the world.
