Readings: Rom 4: 20-25; Lk 12: 13-21
The readings of the invite us to have unwavering faith in the promises of God. In the first reading St. Paul reminds us about the unwavering faith of Abraham who believed in the covenant of the Lord and left his hometown and came to the place which God showed him. In the same way if we believe in Jesus Christ and obey him, we will become what he wants us to be. In the gospel reading we see, someone in the crowd came to Jesus and asked about dividing the property between him and his brother.
The response of Jesus might have irritated him, but Jesus pointed out the truth that wealth is not a permanent possession. It doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t possess anything, but the key point here is that we should never ignore or forget God while becoming prosperous.
In the gospel of Matthew (6:33) Jesus says, “First seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you”. Seek God and his ways we will experience life in abundance. The qualification to reach heaven is not what we acquire in the form of wealth but the faith that we possess and the love relationship that we have with our fellow human beings.
