In today’s gospel, Jesus praises the radical prophetic life of John the Baptist. His words are consoling and is an invitation for me to live a life like that of a prophet. His words also motivate me to sustain my spirit in this way of living. A simple and radical life always inspires and motivates others. We all are called to be a Prophet in the present times through our service-oriented life. We are called to move from pity to compassion.
It is not that we do not have compassion towards others, but we do not sustain the flame that would become the fire of love for others. We hesitate in taking a prophetic stand in our life. We also lose our patience in holding the touch of God which drives us to live a prophetic life with compassion. We truly cannot make everyone happy. Some people will always be there to pull us down. If we concentrate on living a radical life rather than thinking about what some people would say, surely, we will be a prophetic sign in the present times.
This attitude will also help us to sustain the spark of love for others within us. Let us pray to God for his grace to sustain in us the desire to live a prophetic life by following the radical life of John the Baptist.
