Today the universal church celebrates the solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ. Jesus says, “For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me and I in him.”

This is the invitation that Jesus gives to every one of us. In the Eucharist, the bread and wine become the very body and blood of Jesus. It is a gift of love with the sacrifice which Jesus physically gave on the cross and mystically at the last supper. Jesus invites his disciples, to do the same.

Jesus is offering His body and blood as our food. Are we now ready to receive Him and become like Him? He is ever-present in the Holy Eucharist. As St. Augustine says, “You become what you receive,” these words remind us that when we allow ourselves to be broken and shared with those brothers and sisters who are hungry, homeless, sick, voiceless, and the marginalized in the society we become like Christ.

Many difficult situations will come on our way, but he will not leave us alone, he will guide us to become food, nourishment, and encouragement for others. Let us ask the Lord to give us the grace to make our life as a living sacrifice to our brothers and sisters as he has done for us.
