Readings: Acts 19:1-8; Jn 16:29-33
Today the liturgy of the word speaks about the companion in spiritual life. We need a companion in our spiritual life.
Sometimes our spiritual life becomes dry, and we feel spiritually low. It is because we feel lonely without the presence of God in our life. As we live and grow spiritually, we need a companion to accompany and guide us to connect with God.
Today’s liturgy of the word mentions that companion, who gives his company and guides to connect with God.
In the gospel reading, Jesus places himself as an example to live a life in company of the Spirit. ‘Take heart, I have overcome the world.’ Jesus asks us to seek the companionship of the Spirit.
The first reading narrates St. Paul’s mission to Ephesus. Here St. Paul makes a difference between John’s baptism and Jesus’ baptism.
He also speaks about the companionship of Spirit, by giving more importance to the baptism of the Holy Spirit because he himself was one among them and was baptized with the Holy Spirit. He himself experienced the companionship of the Holy Spirit in his mission journey and in his life. Therefore, he urges them to receive the Holy Spirit. So, let us continue to seek the company of the Spirit in our spiritual life.
