Our life on earth is a journey that we are given to live. We have the freedom to do what we like, but also a purpose to fulfil and a destination to reach. Our life journey becomes beautiful by the way we give meaning to our words and deeds in our daily activities.
Today’s gospel invites us to examine our words and deeds during this journey, as we have fellow travellers and neighbours with us.
God gives us many opportunities to make our journey happy, believing that the reward of our life journey awaits in heaven. We are all called to care for the poor, the needy, the sick, and the lonely. But sometimes we forget to experience the life in heaven during our life journey on earth. Some have more and serve humanity without love and compassion. Some have nothing to give, yet serve humanity with love and compassion. What sets these two groups of people apart is the genuineness in serving humanity.
The early Church fathers gave up their lives for the benefit of the church. So, as we journey in our lives, let us reflect on whether we serve humanity with genuine love and compassion and ask the Lord to fill us with the spirit of genuineness. So that whatever we do, we may do it wholeheartedly and with compassion.
