Readings: Is 56:1-3a, 6-8; Lk 5:33-36
Today in the gospel we see that John the Baptist is a burning and shining light for the mission of Jesus. He came as a herald to announce Jesus and taught people about his mission. John bore witness to Christ. He prepared people’s way to Jesus.
The life of John the Baptist inspires me to be a prophetic messenger for the people of God. He completed his mission. He turned people to Jesus and told them that Jesus was the true Messiah and beloved of the Father in heaven. He has received full authority from the Father.
John showed me an example to Excel in my mission, which is to preach about Jesus and spread his message to the end of the earth. I witness Jesus through scripture and I have learned and heard others’ testimony about Jesus. So it is my responsibility now to reveal what I know about him. For that, I need to be rooted in faith and grounded in Christ. Jesus reveals himself to complete his Father’s work. His mission is to proclaim the Kingdom of heaven and bring people together to live a better life.
Therefore the readings invite me to take courage and initiative to reach Jesus out to the people. So, as we are in the season of advent, preparing ourselves to commit fully, we pray to Jesus to give us the burning desire so that we will be able to reach out to people and spread the message of the coming of the Kingdom.
