Readings: 1 Cor 1: 1-9; Mt 24: 42-51
The readings of the day invite me to be faithful and to be transparent all the time. It strongly warns me against being a hypocrite and calls for awareness of my motivation and intention.
In the first reading, the people of God in Corinth are waiting for the revealing of Jesus Christ in their life. St. Paul urges them to be faithful in the grace which was given to them by God. He encourages people to cherish the gift of speech and knowledge.
Faithfulness leads to the continuous revealing of the person of Jesus in our life. The more we understand Jesus the better we cherish his gifts in our life.
The Gospel reading invites me to be faithful to my call of living a life of faithfulness to God and warns me against hypocrisy. A person who is faithful and wise does good work even when nobody notices it. The duplicity of life has its end with great embarrassment in life. When I am faithful in doing my works which nobody knows about, then I can know that I am faithful to God.
So, the readings remind me to check my hypocritical actions to gain appreciation, praise, and personal benefits. It challenges me to strive for greater transparency and faithfulness in my life.
