Readings: Phil 3: 3-8; Lk 15: 1-10
In the first reading, St. Paul expresses that nothing is as valuable as knowing Jesus Christ. He tells us that Jesus is the eternal reward and achievement for everyone. Whatever credit we have on this earth is nothing compared to Him. He is a valuable treasure and source of joy.
In the gospel reading, Jesus shares parables that illustrate how God searches for the repentant sinner and rejoices over their return. Jesus embodied these parables in His life by accompanying sinners and helping them transform from sinners into God’s children. They found God in him. This is why St. Paul emphasizes that knowing Jesus is enough to enter the kingdom of God. In our world, we often set aside those we consider sinners, not allowing them to join us.
During his time, Jesus set an example by associating with sinners and tax collectors, bringing them back to God. He uplifted their status and restored their dignity in society. We need to do the same by helping lost individuals return to God and honouring their human dignity. Let us strive to know Jesus more deeply and assist others in doing the same.
