Readings: Eph 2:19-22; Lk 6:12-19
In today’s Gospel, we see Jesus choosing the twelve. These twelve are Jesus’ closest companions. They were an unlikely group of people from ordinary backgrounds, without influence or special training. What equipped them was the knowledge and love of Jesus. Jesus spent the night in prayer before calling the twelve apostles.
The key aspects of Jesus’ life and mission unfolded in times of prayer. This indeed tells us the importance of praying in our lives. Do I ever consult God about the decisions that I have to make in life?
Jesus calls all of us, like the apostles, to carry out his mission of loving God, others, and ourselves. We may be ordinary people called by Jesus to become extraordinary. To resemble Christ in the world, we need not do great things but simple things in an extraordinary way.
Lord, you call us by name and invite us to have relationship with you and others. Help us to hear your ongoing call so that we may respond with greater generosity, by allowing you to work through us for the glory of the Father.
