On seeing Jesus, the demon affirms its inability and is frightened that it would be destroyed by Jesus who has the power over everything. The demon thought that Jesus was its enemy, while in reality, he had come for the salvation of all. Jesus has the power to change the demon into angel if wished for.
I perceive that the demons wish to remain as they are. God has given us freedom; it is up to us to decide whom we choose and where we belong. As children of light, we respond to the love of God. On the contrary, the children of darkness do not respond to the love of God because they are led by ignorance and are in the clutches of sinful behavior.
However, God in his mercy has planned salvation for all through the self-sacrificing act of his Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. However, the children of light have the privilege of belonging to Jesus and will be with him whether they are awake or asleep. The liturgy of the word affirms us that God’s creation (human and angel) will live in harmony with him.
