Readings: Jas 5:9-12; Mk 10:1-12
In the first reading, we are reminded of the importance of patience and endurance in the face of trials and suffering. The reading encourages us not to grumble against one another but to remain steadfast, knowing that the Lord is compassionate and merciful. We are reminded of the example of the prophets who endured suffering with patience, ultimately receiving the reward of God’s blessing.
In the Gospel, Jesus teaches about the sanctity of marriage and the importance of fidelity and commitment. He affirms the sacred bond between husband and wife, emphasizing that God’s intention from the beginning was for marriage to be a lifelong union.
Jesus highlights the seriousness of divorce, pointing out that it was permitted due to the hardness of human hearts but was not part of God’s original plan. The reading of the day invites us to cultivate patience and endurance in our relationships and to honour the sacredness of marriage. They remind us of the importance of trusting in God’s goodness and faithfulness, even amidst difficulties.
