Readings: Jer 17:5-10; Lk 16:19-31
Today’s liturgy invites us to look into our lives on this earth, how dependent are we in the worldly things rather than God’s. It is an invitation to change ourselves and trust fully in God’s mercy during this Lenten season.
The rich man in the gospel when he lived on this earth did not think about God and he did not fear God. The wealth was God for him, and he did not even think about anything and lived his life as though it continues all the time but whereas Lazarus depended on God even for his daily livings.
In our days to live many at times, we do not think about God. We live our lives with our possessions and positions in different fields. We forget about God. It is a test for us whether we trust in the Lord during our lifetime. We may at times trust in men rather than God.
In the first reading, Jeremiah speaks Gods word telling, accursed be anyone who trusts in human beings, who rely on human strength and whose heart turns from God. And where are we? Do we trust men or God? Jeremiah continues to speak Gods word telling, blessed is the one trusts in God and rely on him alone.
Let us try to acquire this grace from God to trust him always, so that we may be like Lazarus who was embraced by Father Abraham in heaven.
