Upholding Truth and Justice: ICPA’s 29th Convention Inspires Journalists to Embrace Gandhian Values

Mangalore: The 29th Annual Convention and Award Programme of the Indian Catholic Press Association (ICPA) commenced today at CODP Padua, Mangalore, with an enthusiastic gathering of journalists and media professionals. The two-day event, themed “Gandhian Journalism: Upholding Truth, Justice & Non-Violence,” aims to inspire attendees to integrate Mahatma Gandhi’s principles into their journalistic practices.

The convention was inaugurated by Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha of Mangalore, who emphasized the significance of ethical journalism in today’s media landscape. He was joined by MLC Ivan Dsouza and Bishop Henry Dsouza of Bellary as Guests of Honour, marking a notable start to the proceedings.

A highlight of the convention will be a panel discussion scheduled for tomorrow, featuring retired Justice Nagmohan Das as the keynote speaker. Esteemed experts including Dr. Purushoththam Bilimale, Dr. Anupama H.S., and Cedric Prakash SJ will share their insights on Gandhian principles in journalism. The discussion will be moderated by Joshan Rodrigues, Editor of The Examiner, ensuring a robust dialogue on the subject.

The Award Ceremony, which will take place during the convention, will be graced by Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker UT Khader. This ceremony aims to recognize outstanding contributions in journalism, with awards being presented to notable media figures such as Dr. Shaison P. Ouseph, Vinayaka Nirmal, and Fr. Antony Pancras, the chief editor of The New Leader Weekly.
