Readings: Rom 16:3-9,16,22-27; Lk 16:9-15
Both the readings tell us the importance of our relationship with others and our stewardship of resources. They encourage us to prioritize our faith in and commitment to God above material possessions and to show support and appreciation for our fellow believers as we journey together in proclaiming the good news of the Lord.
In today’s first reading St. Paul acknowledges and commends various individuals who were important to the early Christian community. His writing highlights the significance of these individuals and their contributions to the community. Just as these early Christians did, we too should strive to support and appreciate our fellow believers in their efforts to spread the message of Christ.
In the gospel Jesus speaks about the wise use of material possessions. He emphasizes the idea that worldly wealth is temporary and should not be the primary focus of our lives. Instead, we should use our resources in ways that reflect our commitment to God and the well-being of others. Our compassionate initiative in helping others will assure God’s approval and reward.
Today we remember St. Martin of Tours. He is often depicted as a soldier mounted on a horse sharing his cloak with a poor man. This act of kindness is a testament to his commitment to God and his kingdom. It is an example of how we can use our resources wisely for God’s glory.
