Readings: 1Cor 12: 31-13:13; Lk: 7: 31-35
In the Gospel reading, we hear Jesus speak about how Pharisees and Scribes treated John the Baptist and himself. Jesus is not afraid to speak the truth. He exposes the deceitful and stubborn hearts and minds of the scribes and their immature behavior.
They failed or in fact refused to recognize God’s presence in Jesus and in John the Baptist. Jesus and John were the greatest personalities who spoke the truth when others kept quiet. Through this gospel passage, I got two messages, first, move away from the judgmental minds and hearts of the Pharisees and the Scribes, “judge not”. Mt 7:1 says, “Do not judge others so that God will not judge you.”
This passage tells us to stop judging others, which makes us separate from one another but to understand them and grow in maturity. Second, we must be convinced and content to walk in Christ’s footsteps, even when the people say whatever they want. Our goal and focus are to walk in Christ’s steps and to do his will.
