Readings: 1Kgs 2: 1-4 and 10-12; Mk 6: 7-13
Today’s liturgy reminds us of the invitation given by Jesus for each of us to continue his mission. As baptized and faithful Christians, we can do wonders and spread the gospel to the people.
It is a shared responsibility of all the faithful and not just of the religious. As we are marching along with the synodal process of ushering in a Synodal Church, we need to take up responsibilities for sharing and living the teachings of Jesus. Both the readings talk about following the instructions of God as his children who know Jesus as truth, life, and the way.
As a faithful servant of God, David followed God’s advice and instructed his son Solomon to follow it too. In the gospel, we see Jesus who was obedient to heavenly Father and instructed his followers to practice the same. We want to call ourselves as disciples of Jesus. But we can claim
it only when we walk in his teaching in faith with all our hearts and minds.
If you are a disciple of Jesus, then you must practice his teaching; and if you practice his teaching, then you are his true disciple. Both have to go hand in hand. Walking in his footsteps not only makes us strong and courageous in spreading the good news but also makes us do wonders like the disciples of Jesus did in today’s gospel.
Today, let us ask for the grace to realize that all of us are called to be sent on his mission and tune ourselves to live his words in our daily living.
