God reminds us that we are his children. God is upright and therefore all those who live an upright life are his children. This is a statement of fact. But John tries to go beyond by asking “………..but what we shall be in the future has not yet been revealed.” When we look at Mary’s life and Jesus’ mission, we realize that we too could become “person full of grace/….my son, the beloved.”
God confirms us as “the chosen ones of God” from this band of children. He reveals to the world the way in which he would single them out from the rest. By these signs, people would know that they are chosen for a particular mission in his Divine Plan.
God reveals the chosen ones through his personal testimony. God reveals Jesus to John the Baptist by saying “The man on whom you see the spirit come down and rest is the one who is to baptize with the Holy Spirit……is the chosen one of God.”
God promises that “………when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he really is.” What a great blessing he has given to us. We will see him as he really is and we will see ourselves as we truly are.
