Readings: 2Kgs 4:8 -11; Rom 6:3-4,8-11; Mt 10: 37-42
The readings of the day invite me to be sensitive to the needs of others. In the first reading the generosity and sensitivity of the Shunem couple made prophet Elisha to bring blessings to them. In the second reading Paul recounts how Christ was sensitive to offer us a new life through our baptism. Jesus was sensitive to the will of God that let him come and offer himself as a ransom for many. In today’s gospel Christ speaks clearly to us about the need to welcome others.
I often find myself lost in this strange mess of the world. I immerse myself in worldly activities and works. At the end of the day, when lying down on my bed, I feel that I did not get true sense of satisfaction by my works. I, perhaps, find myself still unhappy. I engage in social media, networking sites, chatting. Though I am in contact with many people, I realize that there is a grave presence of loneliness and not having genuine relationships of love and true care for one who is next to me.
So, the readings of the day help me to realize that the one who follows the Lord must seek to follow him fully and wholeheartedly. It is important for us to ask ourselves these questions: Do I value the presence of others? Am I sensitive to their needs? Is my presence a source of blessing to the people whom I meet? What good do I bring to others?
