Readings: Dan 3: 25,34-43; Mt 18: 21-35
In the first reading, Azariah prayed for forgiveness from God because the people had turned away from God. He pleads with God that he may forgive their sins and accept them as his children.
The gospel reading speaks about forgiveness. In day-to-day life, we become rigid in small matters. We get tensed and become angry with our brothers and sisters, fill our mind with unwanted and unhealthy thoughts, with bitterness and jealousy against one another. Sometimes, we even fail to see other person’s face and to speak to them and we may need a third person.
Speaking words of forgiveness takes courage, especially to people whom we resent. Yet, when we forgive others, we become a new person in Christ and we renew our broken covenant with God. Today’s liturgy is an invitation for me to be a person of humility and forgiveness. Will I find courage today to forgive?
